Speaking on the technical details of both the new Omen laptops, they come with 15.6 inch and 17.3 inch display sizes priced at around $899.99 and $979.99 respectively. That's definitely not budget friendly. Microsoft And Facebook Join Hands For New Project

US based technology giants Microsoft and Facebook have entered into an agreement to construct a subsea cable which will pass through the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.
The cable, MAREA as per the two companies will address the increasing demand for high speed and seamless connections for cloud as well as online services from the customers of Microsoft and Facebook.

Both the companies are in advanced stages of the contract, with the construction of the cable expected to initiate by August 2016. The cable project is expected to be completed by October 2017.

''Microsoft and Facebook are collaborating on this system to accelerate the development of the next-generation of Internet infrastructure and support the explosion of data consumption and rapid growth of their respective cloud and online services. MAREA will be the highest-capacity subsea cable to ever cross the Atlantic - eight fiber pairs and an initial estimated design capacity of 160Tbps,'' said the release issued by Facebook on its page.

The submarine cable, stretching across 6,600 km will be managed by Telxius, the telecom and infrastructure division of Spanish telecom company, Telefonica and will link the United States with Southern Europe, spanning across Bilbao, Spain to Northern Virginia.

The route as per the release falls at Southern tip of other transatlantic cable systems which will ensure a seamless connection for customers in the US, Europe and other regions.
The cable will be compatible with a host of networking equipments and will help bring down costs as well as well ease the scaling up of equipments.

Telxius will also serve as the operator for the subsea system and will sell capacity to other operators under their infrastructure business.

The joint move is being cited as an effort to create an indigenous network infrastructure by Microsoft and Facebook, to save on their operating expenditures arising from leasing bandwidth from the existing cable frameworks.

Apple Electric Cars

Apple is investigating how to charge electric cars, talking to charging station companies and hiring engineers with expertise in the area, according to people familiar with the matter and a review of LinkedIn profiles.

For more than a year,Silicon valley has been buzzing about Apple's plan to build an electric car. Now the company appears to be laying the groundwork for the infrastructure and related software crucial to powering such a product.

The moves show Apple responding to a key shortcoming of electric vehicles: "Filling up" the batteries. A shortage of public charging stations, and the hours wasted in charging a car, could be an opportunity for Apple, whose simple designs have transformed consumer electronics.

Apple, which has never publicly acknowledged a car project, declined to comment for this story. Neither the LinkedIn profiles nor sources said specifically that Apple was building charging stations for electric cars.

But automotive sources last year told Reuters that Apple was studying a self-driving electric vehicle (EV), as the Silicon Valley icon looks for new sources of revenue amid a maturing market for its Iphone.

Dubai Builds World's First 3D Printed Office

Setting trends and breaking records is hardly a new thing for Dubai, but the announcement late on Tuesday night shows this incredible city simply knows no boundaries when it comes to brilliance.

Introducing the world's first 3D printed office. Unveiled in DIFC, and revealed on Twitter by his His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai, it is not an understatement to say it's one of the most significant 'firsts' in the region.

world's first 3D-printed office building opened this week in Dubai, Reuters reports. The 2,700-square-foot, single-story building was built in just 17 days using a gigantic, 20-foot tall 3D printer and a special mix of concrete, fiber reinforced plastic and glass fiber reinforced gypsum.

Set in the gardens of Emirates Towers, it will act as the temporary office for the Dubai Future Foundation, an organisation that will help deliver smart technologies to the emirate. Driverless cars, for example, are the work of the Foundation, and so too the World Future Games, set to take place in 2017.

Although the "printer" was massive at about two stories tall, 120 feet long and 40 feet wide, it only needed one staffer to make sure it was functioning properly. The rest of the 18-person construction crew consisted of installers, electricians and mechanical engineers who completed the job for a mere $140,000 in construction and labor costs — or about half the price of a comparable structure built with conventional methods. Of course, the building is more than just another gold star in the UAE's ultramodern playland — it will also serve, appropriately enough, as the temporary headquarters for the Dubai Future Foundation. Next year, the structure is scheduled to become the home of Dubai's Museum of the Future.

"This is the first 3D-printed building in the world, and it's not just a building, it has fully functional offices and staff," the UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohamed Al Gergawi said. According to Gergawi, Dubai plans to have 25 percent of the buildings in the emirate built via 3D printing by the year 2030.

Dell Unveils 43-inch 4K Monitor

Multi-monitor desktops are popular with both professional computer users and enthusiast gamers who want a more immersive widescreen experience, but setting up these systems can be somewhat difficult. It’s generally recommended that you use three of the same display to minimize issues related to mixing and matching different resolutions, as well as to avoid differences in color gamut and calibration from changing how work appears from one monitor to the other.

Dell’s newest P4317Q (also known as the Dell 43 Multi-Client Monitor) is designed to alleviate these problems. While the display can run as a single monitor at 3840×2160, its real strength is as a bezel-less option to display up to four separate desktops, each at 1080p.

Designed in conjunction with financial services customers, the Dell 43 Multi-Client Monitor gives traders a large, crisp viewing experience on a 43-inch (108 cm) screen that delivers Ultra HD 4K2 or four separate Full HD resolution screens without the interruption of bezels, as well as a matte finish that reduces glare and strain on eyes…. Importantly, the P4317Q was designed to be energy efficient. By replacing four monitors with a single display, the Dell 43 Multi-Client Monitor provides a 30 percent energy consumption savings. The P4317Q also features dual 8W speakers.

The company also advertises that the P4317Q includes an RS232 port for remote management, though I’m uncertain why a monitor needs a serial port. Other ports include DisplayPort 1.2, miniDisplayPort, dual HDMI 1.4 ports, a legacy VGA 15-pin DSUB, and a four-port USB 3.0 hub.

The P4317Q can also accept input from multiple sources simultaneously — if you had four separate systems you needed to control, you could run all four from the same monitor simultaneously provided that you have the appropriate video ports on each system. It’s not clear, however, if the Enhanced Dell Display Manager offers any type of KVM support or whether you’d need to provide that via separate peripherals (presumably you would).

It’s also not clear from the product literature whether the display can support multiple desktops at non-standard resolutions — for example, 3840×1080 or 1920×2160. This would divide the panel into two separate partitions either horizontally or vertically rather than four quadrants. The gamer in me can’t help wishing that Dell had a display that could match up to three monitors. The ability to game in 5760×1080 or 7680×1440 in one panel with no bezels to muck things up would be amazing — though the price tag on the panel would never be inexpensive.

India's New Super Computer

India will get an indigenously built supercomputer next year as part of the government’s Rs 4,500-crore programme aimed at taking India into an elite league of nations who have made advancements in the field.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing that built India’s first supercomputer, Param, is handling the project, said Ashutosh Sharma, secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The government had in March last year approved the plan of the National Supercomputing Mission, under which 80 supercomputers will be built in the next seven years.

“Some of them will be imported and the rest will be built be indigenously. The first one will come up by August 2017,” he said.

“We are working on how to control heat. The cost of power to run these supercomputers alone will be around Rs 1,000 crore,” Sharma said. The new supercomputers will be kept in different institutes across the country.

“A supercomputer can be used for various purposes like climate modeling, weather forecast, discoveries of drugs among others,” Sharma said.

Currently, countries like the US Japan, China and the European Union account for a major share of the top supercomputing machines in the world.

New Alcohol Detecting Wrist-Band Device

A San Francisco-based company has won a U.S. government-sponsored competition with an alcohol monitoring devices that can be worn on the wrist, the latest milestone in the development of wearable technologies that monitor and diagnose medical conditions.

BACtrack, a privately held medical device maker, took the $200,000 top prize in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Wearable Biosensor Challenge on Thursday with its wristband monitor, which measures blood alcohol levels via sweat on the skin. The product, dubbed BACtrack Skyn, has not yet been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration for marketing approval.

Dr. George Koob, head of the NIH’s National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, said he expected the device to be a valuable resource for alcohol research community. “It can help doctors accurately measure a patient’s drinking history, and not just depend on the most recent tests,” Koob said. “This can help a lot with the treatment.”

Medical, law enforcement and transportation officials have long sought better technology for detection of blood alcohol levels. Traditional portable breath alcohol testers (PBTs) are unwieldy and can cost over $1,000, and they don’t provide ongoing monitoring of alcohol levels. “The blood alcohol monitoring devices used in legal and medical circles are big and bulky, like a ball and chain for the ones using it,” said Keith Nothacker, president of BACtrack. “We wanted to make something people would want to wear.”

The device in its current form will not, however, be a substitute for breathalyzers or blood tests used by law enforcement, because the device does not provide real-time blood-alcohol levels. Nothacker said it takes about 45 minutes for ethanol to be transmitted through the skin, and that the device is designed to provide a recent history of alcohol use. BACtrack has been experimenting with consumer-centric alcohol testing for several years. In 2013, it introduced the BACtrack Mobile Breathalyzer, which syncs with a smartphone to track blood alcohol content.

BACtrack beat seven other smaller companies to win the NIH competition. Milo, a Santa Barbara based technology startup, won the $100,000 second-place prize for its design of a wearable alcohol content tracker that also uses a skin sensor and communicates with a smartphone using wireless technology.

New Fitness Gym In Running Bus

Fitness fanatics in London may soon not have to choose between a lie-in and looking buff: fitness brand 1Rebel has announced plans to launch a mobile gym onto the capital's streets.

Set to launch in early autumn, the moveable studio will be based around 1Rebel's popular Ride fitness class, with a suite of spinning bikes lined up for a high intensity interval training workout.

The bus will travel through the most popular routes in the city and finish at the St Mary Axe 1Rebel Studio, where attendees will be able to pop in for a shower and smoothie before heading off to work.

Founders James Balfour and Giles Dean devised the Ride2Rebel concept in order to remove potential hurdles for those looking to slot exercise into their busy lifestyles. The bus has been in development for six months, and WMOR Architects have been enlisted to aid on its design.

However it is not all smooth sailing for 1Rebel – the brand needs the government's sign off to allow the mobile studio onto the streets. It plans on applying political pressure by getting as many people to sign up for tickets as possible.

Google Set Launch Modular Smart Phones in 2017

Google on Friday showed off a modular Android-powered Smartphone it said is on track to hit the market next year.

Word that Project Ara was moving ahead, and not shelved as some had speculated during the past year, came on the final day of Google's annual developers conference in the Silicon valley city of Mountain View.

Developers interested in creating applications for the devices will get access to early versions of Ara, which provides a frame in which modules such as cameras, speakers, and sensors can be re-arranged by users like game pieces so as to customize handsets.

Google said that a consumer version of Ara should be available next year.
When the first Ara prototype was unveiled early last year at World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Google expressed hope the approach would provide easier access to smartphones for people in developing countries.

The principle is simple: basic structures are designed to hold screen modules, batteries, cameras, sensors, 3G, Wi-fi or other components snapped into place with the help of magnets.

If a mobile phone breaks or an updated model is released, instead of buying a new handset a user could simply swap out components.

Pricing of Ara had yet to be revealed, but Google last year referred to an entry-level model with a production cost of $50. Plans to launch Ara in Puerto Rico last year were scrubbed.

Amazon's New Video Service -VIDEODIRECT

Earlier this month, Amazon announced a new platform, called Amazon Video Direct, which will allow members to publish self-produced video content for Amazon customers to view.It is same as like youtube website which allows to see & upload videos.

According to its press release, Amazon plans to monetize Amazon Video Direct by playing video advertisements against the content. The company will then distribute a percentage of this revenue to the content's creators.

This decision might come as a bit of a head-scratcher, given YouTube's immense popularity. However, this isn't Amazon's first foray into the world of self-publishing, either.

In 2007, Amazon created Kindle Direct Publishing, a service that allowed authors to circumvent the traditional client-publisher relationship and sell their written content directly to the Seattle-based digital-publishing giant. It isn't clear how meaningful a revenue contributor Kindle Direct Publishing has become, but the company's willingness to work with independent content producers is at least worth noting. Regardless, disrupting Alphabet's YouTube will be anything but easy.

In an attempt to make their streaming service more appealing to content creators,Amazon has launched Video Direct, which allows anyone to upload and get paid per hour streamed.

According To Amazon this is how that breaks down:
  • Buy or rent: Content providers can allow viewers to buy or rent their work and receive 50% of net revenue.
  • Included with Amazon Prime: Providers can make their content available on Amazon Prime and earn $0.15 for every hour their content is streamed.
  • Free with ads: Providers can make their content free with ads and receive 55% of net advertising revenue.
  • Add-on subscriptions: Providers can make their content available only to those with add-on subscriptions and receive 50% of net monthly revenue.

Indian Guy Introduced An App For Finding Nearest Blood Bank

Krishna Kant Tiwari has designed Android app "Ausodhyatmika" (available for free in Google Play) that lists the details of all registered blood banks of the country and their location, with contacts that can be accessed through Google Maps.

All blood banks located within a 100 km radius, with their distance, can be checked.
Blood banks beyond this limit can also be located using the advanced search option.

The app offers an option for any donor to enrol his/her name on the list of prospective donors to help people who are in need of a blood group, which is not available in any blood bank.

“Mobile phone users could easily find donors’ contact number and also can track them using the in-built GPS system,” said Mr. Tiwari.

The app also has a list of ambulances and names of all the registered hospitals of the country, their contact numbers and their addresses.

The app provides details of other healthcare entities such as clinics, nursing homes, pathology labs, diagnostics, pharmacies, and veterinary hospitals that are registered with the Government of India.

Database of medicines
Besides this, the app also has the database of over one lakh medicines and their combinations.
Mr. Tiwari said that in order to prevent any misuse, the app has an option called ‘Report Abuse’, using which, any user can report wrongful use of the app.

Islamic State Launches An App For Children

Islamic State (IS) has reportedly launched its first mobile app for children to teach them the Arabic alphabet and the vocabulary taught by it includes jihadist themes along with words like ‘tank’, ‘gun’ and ‘rocket’.

The IS’s ‘Library of Zeal’ has released an application, titled Huroof, for teaching the Arabic alphabet to children on Android devices, The Long War Journal reported. The application was released through IS’s Telegram channels. The journal posted several images of the app, which is brightly coloured and has the look and feel of a children’s application.

The alphabet application is not the Islamic State’s first mobile application, however it is the first to be directed exclusively at children.

The jihadist group has released several videos that show children being trained for jihad or indoctrinated in schools.
