Facebook Come Up With New Feature To Help Charities

FACEBOOK ,has come up with a new feature that can help nonprofits and charity organisations to raise money for the causes they care about, the company said.

Several months after the social network launched a new "fundraiser" feature for nonprofits to collect donations, Facebook announced it has expanded the tool to individual users.

The tool is now available to 1% of US users standard for new Facebook products in order to gather feedback and make sure there are not any bugs but it will roll out to all US users in the coming weeks.

The new fundraisers are the latest feature from Facebook's Social Good team, which officially launched in September 2015 and is the force behind tools like Safety Check anFocusing on products aimed at crisis response and charitable giving, the team now hopes to break down barriers and empower people to use the tools it is building.

"We had Facebook fundraising for nonprofits with International Media Corpsin Nepal and then last year... nonprofits could fundraise for themselves," Naomi Gleit, vice president of product management for Social good at Facebook, said in a statement.

"But the real vision has always been people fundraising for nonprofits."

The inspiration for the tool came from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral in 2014. Facebook saw people raising money and awareness, but the ALS Association told Facebook that it couldn't handle the volume of traffic to its website, nor could it accept international currencies.

Now, users will be able to donate directly through Facebook or start their own campaigns.d Amber Alerts.

Twitter Set To Lift 140-Character Limit

Twitter now to have more options as the social platform decides to stop counting the 140 characters tweet. More room will be gien to tweets, photos and links. Users to get more space to write little bit more.

It has not been officially announced but Bloomberg reports citing a close source to the matter. The change may take place within next two weeks, if believed to the news media.
CBS News writes Twitter has declined to comment on the matter when asked for confirmation.

This is not the first time Twitter has been speculated to be lifting the limit of 140 characters. Earlier this year in January Recode reported users may in future get 10,000 characters space to tweet.
The Twitter Direct Message offers the same maximum length.

If believed to the sources, the project related to the lifting up of the 140 characters limit is referred as “Beyond 140.”

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said, “At its core, Twitter is public messaging. A simple way to say something, to anyone, that everyone in the world can see instantly,” Dorsey tweeted out in a message. “We didn’t start Twitter with a 140 character restriction. We added that early on to fit into a single SMS message (160 characters).”

Facebook Planning New 'Discover' Feature For Groups

Facebook has groups. You might not have known that beyond the few cursory groups your friends have invited you to, but you can also find groups related to your various interests to partake in large, group conversations (and content sharing) themed to a particular topic.
In an effort to encourage more people to go out and find groups to participate in, Facebook is testing a new "Discover" feature for a random subset of its users.
If you're one of the lucky ones selected to participate, you'll see the new option within Facebook's Groups section. (Tap on the More tab, then tap on "Groups," to see if you have it.).
In the Discover tab, you'll be able to pick from 25 different categories with different themes: Professional Networking; Animals & Pets; Buy, Sell, Trade; and Funny (to name a few). Tap on any of them, and Facebook will give you some suggestions of themed groups you might want to look into joining. These could be groups that other friends of yours have joined, local groups, group with a ton of members, or whatever other combination of characteristics Facebook uses to highlight some of these top groups.
The main Discover tab also showcases groups that a number of your friends have joined (regardless of what the group actually is). And if you don't feel like tapping through specific categories to see what's available, Facebook also lists some of the top groups in each category on this tab. Just scroll up and down to see everything that's available.

Facebook Live Tab Is Now On The Android App

Facebook has launched new feature "Live Tab",but the Live tab on Facebook has now started appearing for only Android app users.

The social network announced that video was going to be even more of priority for the company, with users being offered a dedicated page to find live streams.

Android users are starting to see the Live tab in the center of the screen, pushing out Messenger from its spot.

Clicking on the Live option brings up a scrolling stream of video.

Anyone watching the feed can then react and comment in real time.

As in usual Facebook comments, viewers can select Love, Ha ha, Wow, Sad or Angry and the reactions animate onto the stream.

As networks fight to get people to use - and stay - in their social spaces, many are putting more emphasis on video.

"We've seen that on average people watch a live video more than three times longer when it is live compared to when it is not live," says Facebook.

Live video feeds will be categorized, into subjects such as world news, funny, food and politics, which users can then add to their preferences.
